WHAT IS SHAMANISM?

Shamanism is the oldest form of spirituality and healing known to man. It works from the holistic approach; if something is wrong with your body, then the illness will have links to your mental and spiritual state of health and vice versa. Shamanic principles state that everything in the world has a spirit, a life force, like animism and that the natural state of the world is to be in harmony. When we are out of harmony we can seek healing through releasing blockages be they physical, mental or emotional and by releasing these blockages we allow energy to flow back into harmony. Shamanism also works on the principle that we are all connected; think quantum physics and the theory that the atomic particles in me are also in you and in the walls, chairs, plants, animals and so on...  and not just in this time plain but in the past and future as well. So our disharmony and blockages effect others as well as ourselves. However by tuning into positive energy frequencies (vibrations) we can alter our state to make ourselves more in balance both physically, mentally and emotionally.

SHOULD I WORK WITH MEDICINE PLANTS?

For the majority of people working with the plants can provide great healing mentally, physically, emotionally and spiritually. It helps us to process grief, open our hearts, work from fear into light and delve into our shadow. We would recommend anyone who has been diagnosed with bi-polar disorder or schizophrenia against working with plant medicines and instead seek other forms of healing such as talk therapy which would be of greater benefit to you.

DO YOU WORK WITH AYAHUASCA / SAN PEDRO OR PSILOCYBIN IN THE UK?

No. We only work with the medicine plants in countries where they are legal.

Please note we only offer Ayahuasca ceremonies in her natural habit, her home, the jungle. Personally, we feel she is a wild plant who should not be cultivated and therefore we do not hold ceremonies outside of the Amazon. This is our personal belief and we do not condemn those who offer ceremonies in other parts of the world. We would however advise anyone seeking to work with this sacred plant to ensure the ceremony you attend is legal as in some countries Ayahuasca is considered a class A drug.

WHERE DO YOU HOLD PLANT MEDICINE CEREMONIES?

We hold legal, supported and authentic ceremonies within Europe and Peru. Please see our ‘Retreats’ section for further information.

SAFETY IN CEREMONY

Your safety during your time with us and beyond is of the utmost importance to us. We maintain working in small groups of 14 and below to provide individual care and attention. In working with the plants, we ensure the process is fully explained to the group prior to the ceremony and that there is plenty of support available during and following ceremony. Michele Costa Lukis, founder of Shamanic Space, is one of the main facilitators for each retreat and brings her experience of over 20 years as a psychotherapist and medicine woman to help each individual get the most from their experience and interpret the teachings of the plants.

To read in greater detail about our plant medicine retreats please see our ‘Medicine Plants’ section and select the plant that resonates with you.

Whether you travel with us or another group, we recommend looking for a shaman working with small groups with plenty of experience brewing for westerners.

WHAT TO EXPECT WITHIN A CEREMONY?

For information on how we work with Wachuma, Ayahuasca and Psilocybin please see our Medicine Plants section.

HOW DO YOU WORK WITH THE PLANTS?

Our intention in working with these sacred plants is to heal mentally, physically, emotionally and spiritually. As Rubén maintains ‘they are not for tripping’. These powerful medicines can provide great personal insight and raising of consciousness when they are met with respect, care and a personal intention. We do not work with these plants in a recreational manner but in a traditional, held, sacred ceremonial manner and ask that those who journey with us bear this in mind.

SEEKING THE SELF;
DEATH, LOSS, INITIATION WITH MICHELE COSTA LUKIS

Michele discusses her relationship with Ayahuasca and the process of working with power plants in a recent interview with Dr Aaron Balick and Nathalie Nahai for the podcast, Seeking The Self; Death, Loss, Initiation

I WORKED WITH MEDICINE THROUGH ANOTHER COMPANY AND NEED ADVICE PROCESSING MY EXPERIENCE.
CAN YOU HELP ME?

Yes. Michele is a highly skilled psychotherapist and medicine woman and knows the weighted importance of working with the medicine in a way that cares for the well-being of all taking part. Unfortunately as the popularity of these plants increases, we have also seen an increase in ceremonies held without the proper set and setting, care and integration and processing work. Michele is happy to work with clients within London or via Skype to offer guidance in interpreting the messages the medicine may have brought forth regardless of whether you have traveled with us or with other facilitators.

WHAT ARE IKAROS?

In this rare recording Curandero Rubén Orellana shares the traditional songs or ikaros used in his ceremonies. There is a tradition that these beautifully haunting ikaros are communicated to the Shaman by Spirit and the sacred plants themselves to allow the healer to be shown visions, to journey deeply and to “walk between worlds”. In this way they form a bridge from the plant to the participant in ceremony.

The rhythmic beat created by the shaman’s rattle is a way for the shamanic practitioner to enter a trance like state. This allows the practitioner to open up to Spirit while still being grounded in the healing work. The use of the rattle, ancient bells, whistle and voice are vital parts of the healer’s tradition. The bells used in this recording are over 1000 years old and were passed down from Rubén’s mentor and teacher. For those seeking to deepen their own Shamanic journeying this Shamanic CD is an exceptional tool to work with.

In this recording, as in ceremony, Rubén shares the soothing sounds to recreate the sensation of the mother’s womb; a place of deep relaxation, love, comfort and peace. Especially relevant are the traditional sounds of the rattle, whistles, bells and singing. These hypnotic ikaros allow the listener to enter a meditative state to awaken deep memory, to bring forth visions and to relax the mind thus shifting the pH of the body from acid to alkaline.

Our intention in making this recording is to preserve the traditions of the Peruvian culture, to share this knowledge with the western world and to aid those on their Shamanic path. Most of all, may these ikaros bring you health, peace and harmony.
